Loan Guide
What most South African loan applications ask for, and why.
A South African loan application — for pretty much any registered lender — follows the same basic shape, because they're all governed by the National Credit Act. Here's what a typical application actually asks for.
Typical fields on the application form
- Full name, SA ID number, contact details, residential address
- Employment status, employer name, monthly income, how long employed
- Bank account details (for payout and/or debit order repayments)
- Loan amount requested and preferred repayment term
- Existing debt/expenses (for the affordability assessment lenders are legally required to do)
- Consent to a credit check
- Next-of-kin / emergency contact (common, not universal)
Supporting documents almost always required
- ID document
- Latest 3 payslips or bank statements
- Proof of residence, if you're new to the lender
